Videos.
I've been making videos on YouTube since 2019. First on my own (hiding it from my family) and then including them all when I realised they'd be far more entertaining than me alone. Now we have chickens, I'm even further down the pecking order.
Here's a selection of some of my most recent videos. The early ones were terrible - no-one needs to see them.
Which home charger should we choose?
2025-02-03After a month of using public charging, and then just using the 3-pin 'granny' charger, it's time to get a dedicated 7kW charger. But which one?
Money pit update
2025-01-20After three months of life in our 'new' house, here Flaviana and I discuss what we've done, what's happened, and what are plans are. Other than general despair.
UK rapid charging in 2024
2025-01-10Every year I do a round-up of my experience rapid charging. Here's how I found 2024. Have things improved? Well, sort of...
Route planning with Google OS
2024-12-16I got my hands on a Polestar 2 and thought I'd test just how good navigating is with Google Maps. Could it be as good as Tesla?
Just how bad are log burners?
2024-12-09We test the air quality of our lounge when the log burner is on to see if PM2.5 is really as bad as people say.
One month of public charging
2024-12-03We're always being told that the UK's charging infrastructure is bad, so I thought I'd test that for myself. I ignore that inviting 3-pin socket and exclusively charge elsewhere for one month. Is it stressful? Is it expensive?!
How smart is Smart Charge?
2024-11-23The UK needs many more chargers, so it's encouraging to see just how many the supermarket, Sainsbury's, have installed in just over a year. I visited their Smart Charge hub in Richmond to talk to Product Director, Richard Hackforth-Jones about why they started it, why they chose Kempower chargers, and why is public charging so damn expensive?!
Team Flaviana or Team Andrew?
2024-11-13Our new house has a conservatory. It looks lovely... but it's rotten. And leaking water (and air!). We're also spending a fortune on heating. What should we do?!
Moving day!
2024-11-11Andrew, Baby the Dog, and four chickens drive from Canterbury to our new home in East Sussex.
e-Niro road trip part 2: Italian Alps to the UK (with no planning!)
2024-11-08Our old e-Niro is a fantastic car but its sat nav leaves a lot to be desired in this old one. For that reason, we (well, I), decided to do our road trip with no planning. In part two we drive from the Alps back to the UK, via Amsterdam.
House tour and Topdon thermal imaging camera review
2024-11-01I get asked a lot if I want to review gadgets and turn the vast majority down, but I jumped at the chance to test the Topdon TC002C as we've just moved house and it's a perfect opportunity to give it a test. A great little gadget. I just with the documentation was better!
Intelligent Octopus Go: The ultimate EV tariff?
2024-10-23With the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, your whole house gets cheap electricity when you charge your car. I still can't believe that, but it's true. Here's how it works and why you may feel a bit naughty!
Join the family!
2024-10-15It's taken a while, but we've finally decided to offer YouTube memberships. Support the channel and get some perks!
Get your EV's battery health and more with an OBD dongle
2024-10-05It's amazing what you can do with a dongle. Get your EV battery health (and find out how long batteries really last!), get battery temperature and more. But one of the most useful things for old EVs is using Live Data with A Better Route Planner (ABRP). Here's how it works.
Tony's story: buying a Nissan LEAF 30kWh at auction
2024-09-28Buying a used EV at auction ordinarily wouldn't be a problem but in this case, Tony was very unlucky. Here's his story (and the concluding part of the 30kWh LEAF saga) and why you probably shouldn't trust "BCA Assured" on a used EV.
Nissan LEAF 30kWH battery cell replacement
2024-09-21Thankfully batteries can be repaired and don't have to end up in landfill (despite what people say on social media). Here's how a 30kWh LEAF battery cell was replaced by The EV Workshop in Herne Bay, Kent.
Dead Nissan Leaf battery?! Has my neighbour bought a lemon?
2024-09-13A neighbour bought a 30kWh Nissan Leaf at auction. Old Leafs are notoriously bad for battery management and this poor Leaf doesn't seem to have been treated well. Here's the first part of the story.
Kia e-Niro European road trip: part 1
2024-08-31We did the unthinkable: driving thousands of miles without planning our charge stops in our Kia e-Niro. How was it? Did our marriage survive?!
Kia EV9 full review
2024-05-20Here's my exhaustive review of the massive Kia EV9. Available in 6- or 7-seat configurations, could this be the perfect family EV?
Flaviana vs Kia EV9
2024-04-19If you have a large family, what choice of EV do you have? The Kia EV9 — with six- or seven-seat variations — promises good range, and good charging speed. It's not cheap though! What does Flaviana think?
Model 3 road trip: part 2
2024-04-13The second part of the long-awaited road trip where we travel back from Italy to England. Will Flaviana warm to the Model 3?
Charging the Kia EV9 to 80%: how long does it take?
2024-04-09The 10-80% charging test is back, this time with the Kia EV9. Will the beast have a beastly charge speed as well?
A quick fix for our infrastructure: EV charger sharing?
2024-03-27It's no secret that the UK's charging infrastructure needs a boost, and although rapid chargers get all the attention, shouldn't we be looking at more destination chargers? Apps like Joosup aim to make sharing your charger easy so you can earn money, and people have a place to charge. Maybe that's the quick fix our infrastructure needs?
Mirrorstone Infrared Heating Panel review
2024-03-23Infrared panels seem a bit like magic. I'd not used one before, but here's my impression using a 700w freestanding Mirrorstone panel.
Has Marques killed Fisker?
2024-03-16Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD) is a YouTube superstar. His tech reviews are fantastic, but has he been too harsh on the Fisker Ocean?
Wallbox Pulsar Max
2024-03-16I join the winner of the Wallbox Pulsar Max as he has the charger installed. How easy is installation? And how does the app work?
IONIQ 5 2024 model: what an upgrade!
2024-03-05Hyundai's IONIQ 5 was already a fantastic car, but it's getting a fantastic refresh for 2024. Including (drum roll...) a rear wiper!
Rapid Charging in 2023
2024-03-03I don't do a lot of rapid charging, but when I do, I'm sure to film hard drives full of content I never use. So here I go through that footage and work out just how good (or bad) public charging infrastructure is in the UK. I also go to Gridserve Gatwick and look to the future...
VW ID.7 full review
2024-01-31If you're a sales rep, spending hours on the road every day, you want comfort. I think that's who this car is aimed at. It's enormous, comfortable, and far better than I expected.
Our next EV: part 2
2024-01-14We bought a used EV at auction for £19,000. Will it be a Kia e-Niro or Tesla Model 3? And why is there a chicken in the lounge?!
Our next EV: part 1
2024-01-06We love the Leaf, but we need another EV with a larger range. Here we discuss what we might get. What will it be? Find out in part two. Sorry!
Tesla Model 3 road trip part 1: UK to Italy
2023-12-31It's here! Filmed in August 2022, we took a Model 3 to our favourite haunt in the Italian Alps: Hotel Peter. Having done the trip in a Kia e-Niro and Hyundai IONIQ 5, how will we find the Model 3?
Citroën ë-C4 full review
2023-12-03After the Peugeot e-208, we got ourselves a Citroen e-C4. Here's our review. And a trip to the circus for some reason!
Flaviana's thoughts on the Peugeot e-208
2023-11-14The last of our Peugeot e-208 videos, here's Flaviana with her thoughts on the car... and a lot of other things.
Italy to England in a Peugeot e-208
2023-11-10The final part of the grand adventure. This time I have my wife and daughter with me and we stop in Tuscany and the Italian Alps.
What's the EV difference?
2023-11-08We've been driving EVs for six years and wouldn't go back to ICE. But what about some newbies? I take some out for a test drive.
Win a Wallbox Pulsar Max!
2023-11-01I'm so excited to be able to give away a fantastic home EV charger with installation to a lucky home-owner in the UK. Drawback? I'll need to film installation. Sorry!
Living with an EV
2023-10-25ElectriX asked us to make a video about how we find living with an EV. The problem? It's no problem.
EcoFlow Delta MAX 2000 and 220W solar panel
2023-10-08I've had the 1kWh EcoFlow Delta 2 for a year and it's been great. It's not saved me from any power cuts as Sod's Law means we've not had any since I bought it, but I've used it for everything from drilling to shaving the dog. So when EcoFlow asked whether I wanted to try the 2kWh Delta MAX and solar panel, obviously I said yes. It's a great set-up, but with battery chemistry that's less long-lasting than the Delta 2, I'm still happy with my battery. That said, 2kWh in one fairly portable package is pretty great and charging from a solar panel is addictive!
Finding hotels with chargers
2023-09-25Road trips are so much more pleasant when you can wake up with 100%. Here are my top tips for finding hotels with EV chargers.
The end of Onto
2023-09-16It's very sad to report that the EV subscription service, Onto, have entered administration.
Peugeot e-208 roadtrip: from England to Italy
2023-09-10Here it is. The epic journey in a small car all the way down to Italy from England. Will there be any charger issues? Will the hotels be good? Will my wife be happy to see me?!
Peugeot e-208 roadtrip summary
2023-08-31I'm doing things a bit back to front. Normally I'd show the whole epic journey first, then have a summary video. This time, because I still have so much to edit, you get the summary first! Find out how the Eurotrip in the Peugeot e-208 went, and how much it might cost you if you wanted to do the same by hiring a car from Onto.
Renault Megane E-tech long(ish) term review
2023-07-22After three months of the rather splendid Megane E-tech, here are my likes and dislikes.
Peugeot e-208 first impressions
2023-07-13I've seen so many of these driving around but up until now, hadn't driven one. Onto have kindly given me one for a couple of months so here are my first impressions.
Flaviana reviews the Megane
2023-06-28It's the one you've been waiting for. Flaviana's comments on the Megane after having it for three months.
Megane doesn't like the Zappi
2023-06-24I've had the Megane for three months now and all that time I've had issues charging at home on the Zappi. Is there a fix coming soon?
Rapid charging in the Megane E-tech. How fast can it go?
2023-06-15I'd read the Megane charged to 80% in 30 minutes, so I wanted to test that. Let's go for a drive to IONITY...
Say cheep to our new chicks
2023-04-27Just a short video to introduce our lovely new chicks. They're adorable!

Flaviana reviews the Mokka-e
2023-03-31As is often the case with Family EV videos, it descends into madness when Flaviana tries to pimp me out.
A weekend away in the Mokka-e
2023-03-28Off we go for our yearly trip to Center Parcs. This time we're travelling in the greenest car around, the Mokka-e. But how efficient will it be?
Public charging in the UK: as bad as the media say?
2023-03-23I take pictures and video every time I charge somewhere. Most of this just sits on my computer, using up space. Why not put it all into one video to show how I've found public charging in the last year?
Using route planning apps on the go
2023-02-07One of the hardest things about driving an EV is often just the art of finding a charger. Easy enough when you've stopped, but driving along? Not so simple. Here I try ABRP (A Better Route Planner), PlugShare, WattsUp, Shell Recharge, Pump, and the one that really pleasantly surprised me... Apple Maps?!
Andrew and Flaviana do public charging
2023-01-26ElectriX approached me to make a video about rapid charging. Naturally I got my wife involved, although it did require some food bribery.
VW ID.3 review
2023-01-04This has been in editing hell for 1.5 years but it's finally here. What do we think of the VW ID.3? And what happened in Montreal?!
Blackout buster
2022-12-23Regular power-cuts mean we need an emergency solution to help power our fridge, freezer, and devices. Enter the EcoFlow Delta 2!
Fiat 500e with Onto
2022-11-22The car subscription service we use, Onto, offered me a Fiat 500e for a month if I made a video about it. Since we've been subscribing to cars with Onto for months, and we love ther Fiat 500e, it didn't take long to say yes.
Nissan Leaf update
2022-11-02We don't talk about the Leaf enough. It's the second-hand, £5,250 workhorse that we bought in April 2021. Here's a video about a minor service, running costs, replacing a headlight, replacing the washer pump and... battery health! And for that topic, I actually get an expert in to talk: Dr. Euan McTurk, electrochemist.
IONIQ 5 2k mile challenge: part 3
2022-10-29Maz and I continue our epic adventure from John O'Groats, down to Milton Keynes (where I say goodbye to Maz), and then home to Canterbury. Will anything go wrong this time?
Mokka-e first impressions
2022-10-23We have a new car from Onto and we've gone for the greenest EV we can find: the Mokka-e!
IONIQ 5 2k mile challenge: part 2

2022-10-05In 2020 I drove 2,000 miles around the country to prove what was possible in an electric car. Back then it was the Kia e-Niro. Now? The Hyundai IONIQ 5. Would it be any easier?
Happy World EV Day! We need more chargers!
2022-09-29I live in Canterbury. How many public chargers do we have? One. Ridiculous, isn't it? When networks like Instavolt and Osprey install chargers for free, there's just no excuse.
Italian IONIQ 5 roadtrip: part 2
2022-09-24From Italy to England. It gets emotional!
IONIQ 5 has been sold
2022-08-16Sad, sad day. Anyway, here's all the detail about whether we made any money, the process of selling a car with outstanding finance, the things we had to do beforehand, and what I'm going to miss.

IONITY, RFID cards, and introducing Bonnet
2022-06-30IONITY is very fast, but also very expensive. Here's how you can get it cheap. Also, all about RFID cards for you newbies out there.
Testing Hyundai's charging claim. Does it really do 10-80% in 18 minutes?
2022-06-27I get myself down to my local 350kW charger and see if the warm weather unlocks that mystical 18 minute charge speed.
IONIQ 5 12-volt battery issues fixed?
2022-06-21Good news... I think. A BMS update for the IONIQ 5 seems to be making the 12V more stable.

Should you unplug someone?
2022-02-08The one — ONE — public rapid charger in Canterbury had someone there, plugged-in and not charging. I unplugged them. Was that bad?
Oh no — not the 12-volt again!
2022-02-04The IONIQ 5's 12-volt battery died. I've no idea why. Here's how I got it going again.
Charging etiquette and safety
2022-01-28A scary Facebook post about a lone woman charging at night prompted this discussion with my wife. It gets rambling, off-topic and controversial as ever, be warned!
Quick tip: Preheating (or cooling) your EV
2022-01-21One of the best things about having an EV is no more scraping ice off the windscreen. Here's how to set a climate control timer, and using an app, to preheat your car.
Charging IONIQ 5 in winter
2022-01-14Hyundai claim the IONIQ 5 charges to 80% in 18 minutes. What about in winter? Maybe not.

Mrs. EV reviews the Fiat 500e
2021-07-10I finally got Flaviana to tell me what she thinks of our Fiat 500e. It wasn't pretty.
